About
I like building things that feel reliable and honest—systems you can understand, operate, and trust. In the late ’80s I built and repaired clone PCs, then moved into Novell network engineering and service management, eventually leading a field‑service team. It was twisted pair, coax, and token‑ring loops that had to stay up because someone depended on them.
In 1996 I joined an enterprise oil exploration environment supporting PCs, networks, Exchange, and infrastructure. That’s where I first stepped into databases and programming and realized I enjoyed understanding how systems were built as much as how they ran.
In 2013, I moved to a manufacturing and service company where my role shifted to the intersection of QA, support engineering, and development. I help maintain and evolve an in‑house vertical application suite—Python/Django with modern front‑end frameworks—moving from debugging production issues to shaping features. This is where my UI/UX knowledge was formed: partnering with users and support to reduce cognitive load, streamline flows, and surface the right information at the right time.
I’m comfortable around relational databases—schema design, indexes, and pragmatic query tuning. I’m not a full‑time DBA, but I know my way around an RDBMS and enjoy making data models that are practical and durable.
Outside of work, I’m an Amateur Radio enthusiast. There’s something grounding about signals, protocols, and the discipline of communicating under constraints. It keeps me curious, and it reminds me that technology, at its best, is about clarity and connection.
